Paula became a Wings of God Pearl on May 9, 2023. She moved a lot as a child, living in Indiana, Nevada, and Idaho. Her parents are Mark of Nevada and Shauna of Indiana. She grew up with one brother, Phillip; and two sisters, Kimberley and Jennifer, living the normal childhood of a middle-class family. She enjoyed playing basketball and was second chair playing the Viola in her school orchestra. Her life started to fall apart when she started using drugs at age 15 and lost her way down a path to addiction.  By the Grace of God, Paula began her recovery journey in 2021. She got a taste of what Jesus had for her, bringing her out of the bondage of addiction and into the light of sanity and recovery. In 2022, she relapsed after the death of her 19-year-old daughter, Alexis. Paula said, “It was only through Jesus that I survived her death and the return to active addiction.”

“In February of 2023, I was arrested and placed in the Van Buren County jail. I knew God had bigger plans for me even as I sat in jail. I requested an interview with the staff from Wings of God in May of 2023, and was accepted into the program,” Paula said. “I am putting 100% effort into the program and nothing is going to stand in the way of my relationship with Jesus. The intimacy and closeness I now feel is indescribable.”

“I have a church family at Daily Harvest Ministries in Lawton, a recovery family in Paw Paw, and sisters at the Wings of God, I feel accepted and loved and safe. The Wings of God program and God are transforming me from a girl into a woman of God. Prayer is more valuable to me than rubies. I never thought I would be alive at age 40 and drug free,” she added.

Paula has over five months clean and is currently working part-time at Wendy’s in Paw Paw. She was baptized on 6/5/2023 by the leaders of the Paw Paw Celebrate Recovery group. She has three children: Joseph Jr., age 16; Shaun, age 10; and Olliveya, age 7.
