Stocks and Securities

Appreciated securities are perhaps the most cost-effective assets to use in making a gift. When you transfer ownership of long-term holdings to Wings of God, you receive a charitable deduction for their full market value and you incur no capital gains tax (subject to IRS deduction limits).

Since a donor’s information accompanying electronic stock transfers is not always complete, please alert us in advance that you plan to give stock, including the stock’s name and number of shares.

Planned Giving
You can help future residents by making a bequest in your will or estate plan. Please consider these ways to remember Wings of God in your will or estate plan:

Charitable Bequest
A gift in your will is the simplest way to remember Wings of God in your estate plan. There is no lifetime cost to you, and your estate may qualify for a charitable deduction.

Life Insurance
A life insurance policy you no longer need makes an excellent gift to Wings of God. You may either designate Wings of God as a partial beneficiary or grant us ownership of the policy.

Life Income Gifts
There are a variety of charitable trusts that pay lifetime income to you alone or to you and a loved one. At your passing, what remains can be designated as a gift to Wings of God. If you have included Wings in your will or estate plan, please let us know. We’d like to thank you and acknowledge your support.

In-Kind Gifts
Wings of God supports its mission and programs not only through cash contributions but by the generosity of “in-kind” donations from individuals, corporations, schools and community groups. In-kind gifts allow us to focus our budget dollars on the most critical, day to day needs of our organization.

Tax-free charitable distributions from your IRA

Did you know that federal law allows tax-free charitable distributions from your IRA? Charitable taxpayers who are age 70 ½ or older can direct “qualified charitable distributions” from their fund administrator directly to the charities of their choice, including one’s parish, school or favorite ministry. Please consider using your IRA as a charitable giving vehicle.

Normally, a distribution from your IRA is taxed as ordinary income. However, tax legislation made this a permanent charitable giving opportunity for individuals 70½ or older. You may make a direct distribution (up to $100,000) from your IRA to Wings of God. Such qualified direct distributions to charity from your IRA are not subject to income tax. You will not receive a tax deduction for the distribution either.

It helps you and it helps us. How it helps you: it can lower your taxable income, count towards your required minimum distribution, and help you feel good about giving to your parish. How it helps us: we can put your gift to use right away in providing financial support to our ministries throughout the parish

Please consult with your financial advisor or your tax preparer to see if you are able to take advantage of this to help Wings of God.
